Mon 30 Dec 2002 11:06Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - PetertlhHello!I have bought a second hand stilo last friday and guess what. Airbag failure, stop engine! And you know what is so bad about it: the day before I took the car for a testspin. It drove fantastic but from the start the dash said: airbagfailure, stop engine. When I came back to the garage, the salesperson said to me that when I got the car on friday, the problem would be solved because the only thing they had to do was reset the computer of the stilo.
That did not work! Now they have looked at the car and the sensor for the passenger seat has been ordered. Hope this will solve my problem.
On the internet though. I have found more reports of Stilo's with the 'Airbag failure, stop enige' error!Do you still have the problem with your car?Furthermore I have also discovered other problems: (1)my windshield wipers sometimes come up 1 cm before starting doing the complete whipe, (2) sometimes they just keep whiping no mather what I do and sometimes they just stop and keep staying in that position, (3)the small light that flickers when the car is locked (in the drivers door) sometimes stays that way when I have unlocked the car and I (4) have a very disturbing ratlle inside my dashboard. The salesperson says that they have to tighten some screws that connect the dash to the frame of the car. But fair is fair: this cars rides even better then my good old bravo. Tue 31 Dec 2002 02:26Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - roger.comHello & thanks for the reply.
As you've guessed, resetting the computer won't get rid of the fault & the management system will have 'logged' a fault on it's memory. I use a very good Fiat/Alfa service guy.but the info on the management system is only as good as the techie looking at it. At the main dealer, their service manager asked me to 'take a photo of the dashboard next time the warning sign comes up again!' Next to useless really. You say that you have found more airbag failure reports on the net, would you mind telling me the website please. The reason for asking is that these faults are a safety issue. Did you know that in the event of an accident the faulty airbag won't work?
All Fiat service centres have had an email instructing them not to release a car showing 'airbag faulty etc' back to the owner until it is fixed. I guess they are afraid of litigation claims! Thanks again & I look forward to your reply. Wed 1 Jan 2003 13:31Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - PetertlhWell. I have had contact with Fiat Holland and they said that in Holland there have allready been more complaints about this airbag failure. I have made a complaint against the garage that sold me this car.I also have had contact with the salesperson again and he confirmed that the problem only has to do with a fault in the wiring.
He said that one single wire is used for multi electric pulses that travel over the wire. In my case for some reason the failty airbag notice shows up, but is could well be a completely different message.
If that was really the case, why do all those Stilo's come up with the same error message? I find this explenation a bit strange. But the salesperson also said that it concerns only a message. And that the airbag WILL work!I am starting to feel that the huge amount of electrics put in the Stilo is starting to work against it!Here is a site that also briefly tells about airbag failure messeges. It concerns a company in Italy that lends out Stilo's. Mon 27 Jan 2003 11:56Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - clarkw1971I have also had an 'Airbag Failure/Stop Engnine' problem. The first time it happened the car was taken in and the whole passenger airbag unit was replaced. That was about 5 weeks ago - Stilo was only 3 months old.
2004 Fiat Stilo
This weekend the problem resurfaced so again the car is again in the garage.Has anyone had any complete resolution to the problem - or is it just a case of the car has to keep going back in for repair. Anyone had the car replaced or refunded??
Wed 5 Mar 2003 16:33Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure & other things - spoonyMy Abarth has thankfully not exhibited the fault you describe, but I think it's had every other one!I have never known such an unreliable vehicle. Mine has spent a total of 6 weeks in the dealers over the 10 months I have owned it.
Dealers are totally ignorant of how to diagnose and fix problems on these cars and are using customers vehicles as a training / proving ground. If you are reading this before buying one of these cars, buy a Golf/Focus/Astra or anything else instead, unless you like seeing the inside of a Fiat dealership on a monthly if not weekly basis! Oh and don't expect to get any sense from Fiat UK either, they seem to think that a customer is something that other people have (actually from their finances it looks as though they're right!).
Tue 31 May 2005 22:36Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - CydSomeone further up this thread suggested that if the airbag light is on then the faulty airbag will not work. I think you will find that if the SRS light is on, then NONE of the airbags will workDo ask that salesman what 'multi electric pulses' are please.
I have a mate at.a big supplier of oem ecu's. (he's an engineering manager) who I'm sure would be able to interpret his reply. So don't worry about it being technical. Also ask him to confirm in writing that the airbags will still work with the message displayed.
Bet he won't. Thu 15 May 2003 14:49Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - sammyMy patrner and i know how you feel we have officially rejected our stilo as we have had it 11 months and have had problems for 10 of those months (airbag 9 months), however, they wouldn't accept our rejection because it wasn't a mechanical failure. Have you any official record that the service centres recieved the e-mail about the airbags because i have spoken to fiat UK customer services and Wilson Purves and niether have any recolection of any information regarding this issue. We have had over 20 problems with our stilo and we had it inspected by the AA yesterday and they still found things we hadn't noticed. We now have 2 problems with our car which are deeming it unsafe to drive 1 of them is the airbag and the other is the unuaual wear to the tyres.Look forward to a reply. Tue 31 May 2005 12:12Fiat Stilo Airbag Failure - MobileHi got 52 Plate Fiat Stilo Actice 1.6.(19000 miles) just had Airbag failure stop engine appear last night.
I rang Fiat Assistance, (AA) who passed me through to technical Advisor. Adam at AA advised me that they have a had a technical bulletin from Fiat saying any stilo with an Airbag Failure, message displayed should be immediately recovered to the nearest Fiat Dealer.AA Say car should not be driven, and should be recovered by wagon.AA advise is common on Stilos, and all dealers should have been issued with same technical bulletin. It can either be resolved by restting ECU, OR Resetting, Airbag. If this does not work it will need either new Airbag wiring or new sensor.(or worst case new Airbag)Car was recovered to my local Fiat Dealer Last Night. Just took me 2 hours to get through to them this morning, to be told that car cannot be looked at untill possibly tommorrow, and I am unable to have a Loan vehicle, as i need to give them 2 weeks notice!!!Great car, just let down by niggles and unhelpfull dealers.Dan.
Hi all Just come back off holiday and gone to get in my car to go to work only to find some scum bag or scum bags have broken into it. The drivers side windows is completely shattered glass all over the car.
I dont want to go through my insurance because I lose a years no claims for glass replacement. Any advise from you lot would be great. Im getting sick of this my last car was broken into as well.If its a secure carpark wouldnt that make them liable search stilo breaking on ebay and you will get lots of results just message them all. Is it the same place as last timethe space to park one and strip it and my son needs various bits for his as he recently crashed it I just havent found one yet but I will let you know if I do or if find a place that is breaking one. Thanks for that.
I think I have sourced one from a breakers. Got a lad coming round tonight to fit it. I kept an eye out but only saw a couple of 5 door stilos Liam. Hi peeps I have a 05 1.4 stilo 3 door Active AC that has what started as an intermittent fault that has become permanent and wonder if anyone has the answer.
I have spent hours trawling through previous threads but no joy. The switches on the drivers door do not work either front windows or mirrors though I can lean over and open the passenger door with the switch on that door.
Also the central lockingHi Welcome to the FF. By Fine I mean that I have checked the connector in the drivers door and cleaned the connects and examined the wiring for signs of breakage but the wires appear all in order. If all three problems started at the same time Id suggest you need to do some continuity checks through the connector but usually cleaning them with electrical contact cleaner cures it. The A post connector is the common point for windows mirrors and central locking. If it was only the windows and mirrors then I would suspect the switch connector which is the common point for bothFrom pm As youve lost power to windows locks AND can lines in the door then either the door node is dead or more likely power or earth to the node has been lost So Id check for 12v on door node connector D pin 8 for power in and check earth at the same connector D pin 7. These all go through the door A frame connector D30.
Drivers door node connector D mark1714 thanked for this post. Hi guys has anyone came accross this my drivers side window has started to act up yesterday i can lower it a little then when i go to close it it will just drop like the pinch sensor has operated then when i press the up button nothing happens at all. After 5-6 presses it will go up a few inches at a time.
Until its closed (again pinch sensor symtoms). The wind deflectors have been removed (firstthanks mate but when i press the button i cant hear the motor at all if the cable was on its way i would have suspected the motor to kick in and stop but nada on mine. Im gona do the usual trick and remove the battery for 30 mins and remove the door plug give it a spray. I hope the cable isnt the culpret lol. One of the strange things ive noticed - when the pinch sensor is operated (which i thinkcan anyone help here ive just been out and spent the last few hours swapping parts between the wifes car and mine switches motors and the black box still nadda all my parts work with the wifes car but not on mine her parts act excatly like mine do on my car. Just to recap the drivers door window goes down but not up. I removed the motor and tried it not connected to the frame and it would again onlyThe sensor is the lowest point of the top window rubber channel and runs the entire top and front length of the channel.
Try it on the passenger side window (if that works). Auto lift the window and press under the rubber. Once you know where its located look at the drivers side one to see if there are any obvious breaks. You need to take the door card and inner door panel off to check theYOUR A STAR i disconnected the pinch sensor and got the dash warning up but the window wound up staight away even thoughit was only in 3 inch increments again but this is better than it was. So i pressed in and could feel the click on the rubber where the funny material is. I removed the whole of the rubber and then tried the window again up it went normally so i put it back and it failed again. Whats the best way to pop it out im trying to be really careful in prying it out.
I want to clean the contacts for the driver window switch as it sometimes just stops mid wind up.on the back end of the switch just insert a screw driver under it and lift it out its sprung loaded and should pop up nicely then. Are you sure its not the intrusion sensor on the rubber seal does it immediately drop then go up in stages if it is then its the anti trap (cant remember the correct name) in the frame that needs to be checked it maybe kinked. Clivvy thanked for this postI did wonder that when I press up it winds up then stops. I release the button and re press up it goes and stops again etc. Its not everytime either.
Where are the sensorsits the rubber around the frame that the glass sits in when up. It has first of all check its not too much friction in the runner i use silicon spray in mine when they dry out slowing the window down only need a very small amount otherwise you end up with a hazy window lol. If that didnt work- There contacts inside the rubber that normally dont do anything normally but if there is something obstructingjust thought id revive this to tell you all what I did to fix this issue.
Turns out there isnt anything wrong with the sensors or the button. It was me more specifically finger.
See im not USED to having a car where the windows go UP automatically. I know you are all used to it and its normal not to me. So me pressing and HOLDING the window button was the problem if i just press it one long press and release up the window goes no trouble.
Had mine off today as the unlocklock button doesnt work. Stripped it down completely and found that it was broken tracks on the circuit board. Maybe yours is the same.Cheers Coops did you find a method to fix it Dot it with solder or somethingI need a new panel I had mine out today and its corroded to buggery Nice easy diagnosis thoughI take it your going with the replace it option. For future reference if you encounter the same problem with broken tracks you can repair them by the following ways 1. Take a peice of thin copper wire and solder this to the broken track at both ends. You can buy a conductive resin that you can paint onto the broken track and this restores it once it dries.
Ive only ever tried the first option. Would realy like some help please.i have a 03 stilo multiwagon and approx three days ago i blew a rear brake light bulb before i changed the bulb i checked the fuses(from the fuse box which is at the front of the driver) none of the fuses where blown for the lights so i checked the rear light bulb and hey presto a blown bulb which i replaced.ie job done almost end ofhi.
For some reason my electric windows have forgot in which order they are supposed to open. Ie when i press my drivers window button.the passenger window goes down and when i press the passenger window button. The drivers window goes down and exactly the same thing happens to the electric mirrows too i have a 03 fiat stilo multiwagon can anybody shed some light on this please i haveSame problem here in NZ 2002 stilo 5-dr 1.8 16V petrol. Rear window switches are fine driver and front passenger switches operate opposite windows and electric mirror leftright switch activates wrong side mirror. Took it to a dealer with genuine Examiner HD who performed proxi alignment active diagnosis operated drivers and passengers windows as expected switches still reversed. They looked through all other modules and did not find a setting that could explain this.
Any ideas please -Alex. I have a problem with the electronic control unit that command the windows the mirrors the central locking from the drivers side. None of the functions work and the control unit cannot be repaired it seems that from the water getting there it burned. My question is the part code from the control unit that i have in my door starts with 41 but the control units that i could find on ebay etc. Have aPart number 46775025 has never been changed. It is only suitable for the drivers door of a Left Hand Drive (steering wheel on the left side) stilo fitted with the EasyGo keyless entry system. Did you know your car has EasyGo Cars fitted with EasyGo also have another small control unit (part number 46842508) in each door.
Part number 51711367 is only suitable for the drivers side of a LHD car fitted.
